Tinkercad Lesson 2: Add and Resize a Through Hole

Learning outcome

Add one through hole to a 100 × 30 × 5 mm plate, then resize the same hole from diameter 6 to 8 mm while preserving its centre and the plate dimensions.

Before you start

Beginner lesson · English. Continue a separate copy of your precise Lesson 1 plate. Use millimetres and keep the original cloud design.

Step-by-step guide

1. Preserve the starter
Keep a copy of the blank plate before adding the hole. Check that the plate is 100 × 30 × 5 mm.

2. Position the hole
Follow the video to place the through hole at local X = 15 mm, Y = 15 mm. Keep the local reference consistent throughout the exercise.

3. Create the 6 mm checkpoint
Set the hole diameter to 6 mm and confirm that it passes through the full plate thickness. Preserve this D6 version before resizing.

4. Resize the same hole
Change the existing hole diameter to 8 mm. Keep its centre at local (15,15), and keep the plate dimensions unchanged.

5. Compare and save
Inspect both openings, compare the D6 and D8 versions, and save your edited cloud design separately from the starter.

Try it yourself

Repeat the change from D6 to D8 in a separate copy. Predict which dimensions change and which remain fixed.

Check your result

• The plate remains 100 × 30 × 5 mm.
• The same hole changes from Ø6 to Ø8 mm.
• Its local centre stays X15/Y15.
• The opening passes through the plate.
• The original and final practice versions are retained.

Common mistakes

Do not move the centre while changing the diameter, resize the whole plate, or add a second hole as a substitute for editing the existing one. Check numerical values rather than the camera view.
