Construction AI: Can You Trace the Evidence?
Edition: 22 October 2026 · Category: BIM News
This archived edition covers six developments announced on 20–21 October. Its source ledger records primary-page checks on 22 October. Product statements below are supplier claims, not BIMETI test results; the suggested pilots are editorial recommendations.
1. Drawings join project-level risk review
Document Crunch, a Trimble company, announced on 21 October that CrunchAI can review construction drawings alongside contracts, specifications and other documents. The release describes extracting drawing text, linking answers to sources and checking missing sheets, scope gaps and conflicting requirements. This is not geometric clash detection, nor an independently verified accuracy result.
A useful pilot is a non-confidential drawing set with one deliberately missing sheet reference and one conflicting requirement. Ask for the exact source location and distinguish a confirmed conflict from missing information. A qualified reviewer should score missed issues as well as false warnings against the original revisions.
2. Voice answers on site still need review
Procore's 21 October announcement introduces AI Go, a voice-first app answering questions from project information. Its open beta is for eligible North American customers on Digital Coworker Starter, Pro and Enterprise packages. The Meta AI glasses integration is a separate closed beta. Creating records and drafting RFIs through the app are described as upcoming, not current capabilities.
Test one question with a clear answer in an approved drawing and another whose answer is genuinely absent. Check the supporting evidence and what happens when speech recognition mishears a revision or dimension. Outside the launch region, treat this as a development to evaluate, not an instruction to deploy. Approved documents and responsible professionals remain authoritative.

3. Specification suggestions remain subject to approval
RIB announced Omni within SpecLink on 21 October. The initial US launch is an add-on for existing customers, with complimentary initial access and tiered pricing planned from January 2027. RIB describes source-linked answers and version history; its product page retains section-by-section user review.
Start with two controlled specification sections containing a known inconsistency. Request a review note, not an automatic edit. An authorised professional must decide whether clarification or a change is appropriate. Vendor privacy statements are not a substitute for reviewing the project's contractual data-use terms.

4. Ask why a forecast changed
Buildots' 21 October release expands Dot with analytical tasks such as investigating forecast delays, comparing activity performance and checking trade-partner claims. It describes charts, refinable reports and explanations of metric assumptions. The company says the update is available globally to customers at no additional cost; that does not make the underlying platform free.
Use an anonymised historical reporting period with a known outcome. Trace one forecast to its observations and assumptions, deliberately include an evidence gap, and check whether uncertainty remains visible. Separate recorded observations, inferred trends and recommended actions before changing a programme.
5. Put imagery beside the issue
EarthCam announced its tenth-generation Procore integration on 21 October, including scheduled milestone snapshots, imagery for punch lists and inspections, and observation markers on the image timeline. Its stated detection categories include trench safety and delivery verification. Detection is not a competent person's inspection or safety certification.
Try a synthetic inspection record with a dated image, then a misleading image captured before conditions changed. Can the reviewer identify the location and timing mismatch? Before using real footage, review access, retention, coverage and privacy. A photograph only shows what was visible within its frame at capture time.
6. Prepare the model-to-machine handover
Trimble's 20 October announcement describes an Earthworks excavator configuration with two DA2 receivers and a Trimble Works subscription including WorksManager. Dealer availability was planned for mid-Q4 2026. The release establishes neither universal pricing nor project-specific positioning accuracy.
Before production use, identify the approved surface, revision, coordinates, units and elevation basis. Assign responsibility for delivery and withdrawal of superseded files, and plan an independent check against suitable survey control. Hardware changes do not remove those obligations.
Practical takeaway
Choose one small, reversible pilot with a known error and an unknown answer. Define success before trying the tool and judge results against evidence, not presentation confidence. Original AI-generated illustrations accompanying this edition are conceptual editorial images, not software screenshots or evidence of tested performance.
